Pineapple Sheera

Sweet semolina dish made with pineapple.

Semolina porridge or sheera is made on festivals like rakshabandhan, diwali, and durga puja.

I came across pineapple sheera on such occasion in my friend's house. I have seen people from Karnataka use pineapple in a variety of dishes. Crushed pineapple or pineapple pieces are added in sheera to give it that sweet and tangy taste.

 

Serves 4-5 people.


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dry roasted semolina

  • 1/2 cup crushed pineapple

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2 tbsp ghee

  • 1 tbsp of cashew pieces

  • 1/2 tbsp of raisins

  • 1/4 tsp of cardamom powder

  • rose water or saffron (optional)


Method:

  1. Roast cashew pieces and raisins in hot ghee.

  2. Drain cashew and raisins and keep it aside.

  3. In the same ghee, add 2 cups of water. Bring to slight boil and add pineapple.

  4. Let it come to rolling boil. Add sugar and stir well.

  5. After 3 to 5 minutes , add semolina carefully and stir making sure no lumps are formed.

  6. Stir in cashews, raisins, cardamom powder, etc., and mix well.

  7. Keep it covered for 10 minutes and serve.
