Panasupottu Koora

Also known as grated jackfruit curry

An Andhra delicacy which many people are fond of and my dearest eldest sister graciously shared the recipe with me. Please note the video is in Telugu language and I have given the ingredients and method to make this curry.

 

Serves 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups grated jackfruit

  • 1 tbsp roasted peanuts with skin removed

  • 2 tsp bengal gram(channa daal)

  • 1 tsp black gram (urad daal)

  • 1 tbsp white sesame seeds

  • 1 large lemon sized tamarind fruit pulp

  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds

  • 5-6 whole red chili

  • 8-10 green chili

  • handful of curry leaves

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • salt to taste

  • 1/4 cup oil

Method:

  1. Wash and peel jackfruit and cut into pieces. Grate each piece and cook in enough water until tender. Drain the water as much as you can and spread on a plate and keep aside.

  2. On medium heat, roast peanuts, and channa and urad daals, along with 4 red chilis.

  3. Add green chilis and curry leaves and roast for another few minutes.

  4. Add grated jackfruit into this mixture and stir all ingredients well.

  5. Stir fry for 5 minutes and add tamarind pulp and salt to taste. Stir fry for another 5 minutes and turn off the stove.

  6. Powder mustard seeds, sesame seeds, and 1 red chili with enough water into fine paste.

  7. Add this mixture into the jackfruit mixture. Mix well and keep it covered for 30 mins.

  8. Serve with hot rice and ghee.
