Coconut Burfi

A sweet made with coconut

One of the easiest Indian desserts is Burfi made with just a few ingredients like coconut, milk powder, nut powders, etc. I am presenting coconut burfi and coconut ladoo. Sugar can be added to one's sweet tooth.

 

Makes 20 pieces


Ingredients for burfi:

  • 2 cups freshly grated coconut

  • 1 and 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

  • kewra essence (optional)

  • 1 tsp ghee

Method for burfi:

  1. Warm ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan. Sauté grated coconut for 2-3 minutes on low flame, making sure it does not brown.

  2. Add sugar and mix well. Sugar will dissolve and combine with grated coconut.

  3. Cook for 7-8 minutes on medium flame. Add cardamom powder and mix well.

  4. Transfer into a greased tray and press it down to form a square shape. Leave it aside for 15 minutes.

  5. While the mixture is warm, cut into squares. Serve and enjoy.

  6. Can be kept in an air-tight container for a week.


Coconut Ladoo:

Same ingredients and methods as burfi, but please add 2-3 tbsp milk along with sugar. Let mixture cool and form ladoos with your hand like below.
