Chili Paneer

Paneer cubes in chili gravy

Chili Paneer is a dish that can be found only in India or in Indian restaurants abroad. This flavorful dish is not only tangy but spicy as well. Remember to use as much or as little chili according to the desired spice level. Adding a little bit of each ingredient will definitely enhance the flavors in this dish.

 

Serves 4-5 people


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cubed paneer

  • 1 small onion finely chopped

  • 1 small tomato finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup finely bell pepper finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup spring onions finely chopped

  • 2-3 green chili finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp white vinegar

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder

  • 1 tbsp minced ginger-garlic or paste

  • 2 -3 tbsps cornflour

  • 1 tbsp maida (all-purpose flour)

  • 1 tbsp red chili sauce

  • 1 tbsp schezwan sauce (click here to make your own!)

  • 1 tbsp green chili sauce (optional)

  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup

  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce

  • salt to taste

Method:

  1. In a bowl, mix maida and corn starch with salt and pepper. Add 1 tsp oil to cubed paneer and coat with flour mixture.

  2. Shallow fry and keep aside. In the same oil fry ginger and garlic for 2 minutes before adding onions. Fry for an additional 2 minutes and add bell pepper.

  3. Add tomato and salt and cook until soft. Add vinegar, all the sauces mentioned above.

  4. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Make a thin batter of corn starch and water and add to the mixture.

  5. Let it cook until it thickens. Add additional water and simmer to the gravy level you want.

  6. Serve with Roti or Rice.
