Tasty afternoon snack made with bread
Do you have leftover bread or have baked extra bread and would like to consume it in a tasty way? Then bread upma is for you! This is a simple and easy afternoon snack with tea.
Serves 3 people.
Ingredients:
6 slices of bread
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tomato, finely chopped
1 bell pepper, finely chopped
2 green chili, minced
1 tsp grated ginger or ginger paste
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad daal (split black gram)
salt to taste
juice of 1/2 a lemon
sprig of curry leaves
1 tbsp finely chopped cilantro
1&1/2 tbsp oil
Method:
Toast bread lightly in toaster and cut bread into bite-sized squares.
Temper mustard seeds and urad daal in hot oil. Add minced green chili, curry leaves and ginger and fry for 2 minutes.
Add onions and fry until translucent. Add bell pepper and fry for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, salt, turmeric, and red chili powder and sauté for 5 minutes.
Add bread pieces and stir fry on high flame for 2 minutes.
Turn off the flame and squeeze juice of half a lemon and garnish with cilantro.
Serve warm with tea.
