Also known as deep fried bread made with all-purpose flour.
Making bhaturas is an art. There are different ways to make them and I have, at times, struggled to make perfect bhaturas. But with practice, you can master my favorite recipe.
Makes 12 bhaturas.
Ingredients:
2 cups of maida (all purpose flour)
1/4 cup fine semolina
2 tbsps sour yogurt
3-4 tbsps oil
oil to deep fry
water to make dough
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp sugar and salt to taste
Method:
Add all ingredients except for water.
Mix well and add water to make a soft, pliable dough.
If sticky, knead with oil in your hands for about 10 minutes.
Cover with wet cloth and keep it aside for 5-6 hours. You can also leave it overnight.
Knead well again before use.
Make golf-sized dough balls and roll out round/oval shapes.
Deep fry in hot oil. Serve with chole and Punjabi pickles.
